Who loves winter, but is looking forward to warmer spring days at the same time? 💯

Three days ago it's been Spring Equinox.

💭 To begin, let's brainstorm: What words do you associate with spring? Do you know any soring qualities that we call in when we mediate or practice yoga? Do you know any yoga poses that are related to spring?

💫For example, as the cherry blossoms start to come out, you'll hear the word "awaken" or "reawaken" a lot.

😊 Which yoga poses would you associate with these two verbs?

👇Write them below! Happy English and Yoga practice!

Who is sometimes confused about what they're hearing in a yoga class?

Remember that in a yoga class you will hear English and Sanskrit words! Sanskrit is the ancient language of India. Today, it is the language of ritual rather than a spoken language.

💭 If you are a teacher, you need to consider your students' background knowledge! Imagine how difficult it would be to distinguish one new language from another new language when you're just beginning to learn one new language.

For example, could you distinguish a Turkish from a Swedish word if you were just about to set out to learn Turkish?

💭 If you are a student, you will often hear the word "Namaste" at the end or beginning of a yoga class. Originally it was a salutation or greeting.

💫At times, you will also hear a yoga teacher translate it is "The light in me honors the light in you" or "The teacher in me, honors the teacher in me". However, some teachers may translate it even more freely or individually depending on who their yoga learners are.

😊 Have you heard other translations or interpretations? Or do you use other translations with your students?

👇Write them below! Happy English and Yoga practice!

Complete this sentence: Self-care is __________ . 💪

Self-care is a noun • if you would like to use it as a verb, you could say “to practice self-care” or “to care for yourself” 🙏

It refers to habits, practices, actions that support you in being your best, most balanced and grounded self.

I love using inspiring quotes with my students.

☕️ They’re short, so they make excellent lesson starters.
☕️ They foster critical thinking and inspire reflective conversations
☕️ They’re an opportunity for students to connect and practice their conversation as well as deep listening skills 👏

👑💯☯️😘

This is a cue often used to transition between two yoga poses or to use the grounding energy of one body part to lift another body part ⬇️⬆️ These two opposing energies let us tranition between two poses or hold a pose with more stability. In every pose and in transitions we ground whatever bodypart is touching the ground and use this grounding, rebound effect to let another body part flow up. “Root” and “rise” are verbs, i.e. they’re actions. The preposition “to” indicates purpose. For example, a cue might be “root your feet down down in order to float your upper body up” when coming back to standing from a forward fold. Can you think of other yoga poses where you might use this transition?
