Today is World Architecture Day and this year’s theme from the UIA is a big one: “Housing is a Human Right. Build It.”
Safe, affordable, and adequate housing is something everyone deserves but creating housing that works for people and communities takes more than simply putting up buildings. It takes thoughtful design, creativity, sustainability, and a willingness to ask: who are we designing for?
And we think kids should be part of that conversation, too.
At Petit Architect, we believe children aren’t just future architects but future neighbours, community members, designers, decision-makers, and city-builders.
When kids learn to think about how homes, neighbourhoods, and public spaces work, they start asking important questions:
🏠 What makes a home feel safe and welcoming?
🏠 How can we create neighbourhoods where people and nature can thrive?
🏠 How can we design spaces that work for everyone?
🏠 How can we reuse what we already have instead of always building new?
🏠 And what would they change about the places they live?
Architecture education gives children the tools to imagine better places and the confidence to believe their ideas can matter!
Building more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable communities starts with people who care about the communities they’re building. 💕
