Our mission is to promote the Africa business landscape by creating a platform that connects academics in North America to opportunities in Africa. Simple.

UBC is a place of mind. Many minds, many different ideas. Now the question is, with such a diverse group of minds, there come many ideas and many clubs to represent those ideas. Official Statement:

As UBC Africa Business Club, whilst taking a larger focus on business for, from or in Africa, we aim to facilitate conversation around, and gain insight or inspiration from structures all around the world.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the racial disparity that has become impossible to ignore in America, and the related conversation on multiple forms of racial disparity present in almost all parts of the world. It is obvious to us that the maintenance of these largely unfair or oppressive systems are counter-productive and stifle the growth and development of individuals and societies in the way we strive for.

We therefore stand with those in support of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, whose murders have sparked the conversations and actions that support a need for reformation of the systems that maintain the racial disparities faced by black communities, in America and the world at large.

At this time, we urge you to show support to the surrounding black-owned business whose growth may have been stifled by institutional shortfalls, and to stay safe in any action you may decide to take in the coming weeks or months. We will be a part of this conversation, placing a spotlight on the affected businesses and stakeholders.

As we think about our role, please think about yours.

Sincerely,

UBC Africa Business Club
