Accountability means we acknowledge, apologize, and change our behaviour when we make mistakes. Our co-founders are three artists who identify as women of colour and/or q***r, and we chose a group name that we thought reflected who we are. However, the term “femme” is used specifically by le****ns and bisexual women who present feminine. We’re so sorry for overlooking the importance of this term within the q***r community, and for co-opting this term by removing “femme” from its original definition and history. We’ve changed our name to reflect and specify our purpose: to provide people of marginalized genders (especially Black people, Indigenous people, people of colour, and low-income people) the opportunity to code, design, create, and lead. We are Marginalized Genders Accessing and Generating Evolving Systems. We are MAGES.

Thank you Creative BC for your support through the Industry Initiatives program. The tech sector is rapidly growing in BC, set to provide countless opportunities for creatives.
Our aim is to create safe spaces where participants gain the skills and confidence to learn, problem solve and collaborate together on digital media. We also work to keep our events free, and open to anyone experiencing financial and other barriers. By levelling the playing field, we all benefit from sharing diverse perspectives and ideas.

We love hearing about awesome initiatives, and Shades of Sustainability is no exception! is a community project in Vancouver that invites folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour to unpack what sustainability means to you and your communities.
They are currently seeking and featuring digital stories of BIPOC. These photos and quotes can be familial/inteegenerational stories, cultural/traditional practices of sustainability, or just talking about your experience of representation/under-representation in environmental action. You can submit at http://shadesofsustainability.com/submit 🌱🌿
