My thanks to the 74yr old woman, who looks 50 and moves like she's 30. Who insisted I take a moment and get captured amongst the fall leaves. I'm trying to slow down more and take stock of my surroundings, but a reminder is always helpful. She's on IG too, and did not want to be tagged. 😊 🙏🏾

Saboteurs: Who are they and how can you get them out of your life?

In life most of us set goals, and are trying to figure out ways to achieve them. It could be a diet, exercise routine, or saving money. If you are social and have a group of friends that you associate with regularly, you’ll probable have people cheering you on, helping, or hoping you will achieve your goal.



The thing is sometimes people see your struggle, and only want the best for you. They want you to feel good, be relaxed, or take it easy. That desire to see you happy and, and not in a state of discomfort, which often comes with transition, sometimes results in what can only be called sabotage.

What is a Saboteur?
A saboteur by definition is “one who practices sabotage” If you’ve heard any version of the following phrases from some one close to you, chances are they are a saboteur.

“Come on, what’s one more [ insert noun here] it won’t make a difference”

“You’ve been at this for 7 days, I think you’ve proved your point”

“Just relax a bit, you don’t have to take it that seriously”

“Come on, live a little!”

One of the 6 principles of a Heater Mindset is to “Take someone on the journey with you”. What this means is that if you are on a successful journey you can help encourage others to come along with you. What is also important, is to make sure that your friends understand that you are on a journey, and that you are open to support, but not willing to immerse yourself in a non-supportive environment.

How do you deal with a Saboteur?
It’s actually quite simple. You need to set the expectation so people know where your head is at. I coach my clients to practice one phrase in particular.



“These are the things that are important to me, and I need your support”



If people in your circle can’t understand this, and continue to behave in a saboteur-esque fashion, you need to seriously consider whether or not you need them in your life.

How do I know what’s important to me?
That’s a very good question. You need to ask yourself key questions, so you can determine your goals, and help build a plan and the right mindset to get there.
