Metro International Secondary Academy

Today, Monday, May 20th, we gathered at Legion 375 to celebrate and recognize an outstanding achievement in the Canadian Remembrance Day Poster Competition. We are extremely proud of Xu Yu Zheng (Rena), who was awarded 2nd Place at the Legion level for her coloured Remembrance Day poster. Rena competed amongst 120 high school students and her accomplishment is remarkable.

This meaningful competition was introduced to Rena by her English teachers who provided encouragement, support and guidance throughout the process. Rena produced a poster with dedication that demonstrated exceptional artistic creativity.

Rena is a talented artist who sincerely respects the sacrifices made by those who served during times of war. Through her artwork, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the courage and service of the men and women who fought to protect the freedoms, liberty, and democracy that we enjoy in Canada today.

Her achievement is a testament to both her artistic ability and her thoughtful character. MISA greatly appreciates the effort, care and commitment Rena invested into this competition and we are honoured to celebrate her success with our school community today. We would also like to give a special thanks to her English teachers who have wholeheartedly supported and guided Rena. We invite everyone to celebrate this special ceremony that recognizes Rena‘s outstanding achievement and commitment to excellence.

In Food and Nutrition class, students participated in a fun frozen yogurt workshop. The students made delicious frozen yogurt and topped it with fresh raspberries. The workshop was exciting and enjoyable for everyone involved. After making the frozen yogurt, students shared their tasty treats with everyone in the school. This activity was a fun and a creative way to learn how to make a healthy and delicious snack. Everyone was very excited and they enjoyed the workshop very much.

Many people commented on how delicious and refreshing the frozen yogurt tasted. This workshop was a creative and memorable way for students to practice their culinary skills. Everyone was excited to participate and the activity brought lots of smiles throughout the school.

Today, our students had the opportunity to attend an insightful university sharing session led by upper-year students from the University of Toronto and McMaster University.

The session covered first-year experiences in programs including Rotman Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, and Life Sciences, giving students a realistic look into university academics and campus life beyond the application process.

From course selection strategies and program requirements to workload management and GPA tips, the speakers shared valuable advice and personal experiences that students rarely get to hear through official university information sessions.

For many students who have already received university offers, this was a meaningful opportunity to better understand the transition from high school to university and prepare for the challenges ahead.

A sincere thank you to the Chinese Undergraduate Student Association at the University of Toronto and all of the student speakers for taking the time to support and inspire our students today.

Our recent Food and Nutrition workshop was an exciting experience for all the students. During the workshop, students prepared delicious corn dogs coated in a unique batter mixed with diced potatoes. The corn dogs were deep fried to perfection, as they were hot, crispy, golden, and absolutely mouth-watering. To make them even more flavorful, students added garlic chilli sauce and ketchup, which gave the snack a tasty finishing touch.

The workshop created a fun atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity. Students were eager, highly motivated and they participated throughout the activity. They collaborated wonderfully with one another, while learning important cooking skills and food preparation techniques.

This famous carnival-style snack brought back cheerful fairground vibes, making the workshop even more enjoyable and exciting for everyone involved. The teachers showed great care and dedication in carefully planning and organizing this engaging activity, ensuring that every student had a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

One of the most heartwarming moments was when students shared the freshly made corn dogs with others around the school. Their excitement, generosity, and sense of community made the workshop truly special and motivational for everyone.

This morning, our ESLB&D class had a hands-on learning experience with Ms. Fatima! 🥞🥪

Students learned practical English vocabulary and phrases related to making breakfast by actually preparing pancakes and sandwiches together in class. Through cooking, students practiced communication, teamwork, and everyday language in a fun and engaging way.

It was wonderful to see everyone actively participating, learning new skills, and enjoying the delicious results of their hard work! 👏✨
