The exercises that aren’t always fun… but make everything else easier 🎻

Ševčík and Schradieck are two of my first exercises for working on finger independence, coordination, speed, and control.

A few focused minutes of fundamentals can make a huge difference in the pieces you’re actually trying to play.

Playing violin at a wedding inside Casa Loma 🎻

One of those moments that reminds me why all the hours of practice are worth it. Getting to perform in a place this beautiful made the night feel even more special.

A few things I learned since finishing music school.

Some lessons came from performing, some from teaching, and some from just living life.

- Your career won’t be linear.
- Being a musician means wearing many hats.
- Real Growth happens outside the practice room.
- Success looks different for everyone.
- Music is only part of the journey.
- No one is coming to hand you a career
- Your “unconventional path” is actually your edge
- Teaching others deepened my own playing
- Rest is part of the practice
- You don’t need permission to call yourself a musician
- Building something of your own is scary and worth it!

Still learning every day as I prepare for the next chapter. 🌟

A simple trick I wish I learned sooner 🎻
Rest the scroll against a wall and let the wall hold the violin. It’s a simple way to check whether your left shoulder and hand are carrying unnecessary tension.

Many people don’t realize how much tension they’re carrying until they take the instrument out of the equation for a moment.

Try it for 30 seconds and notice what it feels like.

Is it just me or has this year’s weather been absolutely chaotic. After months of snow and grey skies, the city finally feels warm again. Hopefully it stays that way.

good shifting starts before the finger even moves 🎻

a lot of tension and inconsistent intonation comes from trying to shift with just the hand or fingers alone

instead, think about moving the entire arm together as one connected motion
the finger simply arrives with the arm, not after it

once everything moves together, shifting starts to feel smoother, lighter, and way more controlled ✨
