The Tema Conter Centennial Student Chapter would like to announce an upcoming mental health and wellness conference geared specifically to first responder students. The Student Chapter would like to invite any interested currently enrolled students to share in a day of education and awareness regarding the psychological and emotional challenges they may face in their careers, as well as resiliency skills and coping techniques that can be utilized in these situations. Speakers include representatives from the Tema Conter Memorial Trust, mindfulness and resiliency experts, a member of the York EMS Peer Support Team, and current first responders suffering from psychological injuries. The conference will be held on September 16th, from 9 AM-1PM at Centennial College Morningside Campus, room 203. Please plan to arrive at 8:30 AM in order to register. The conference will be free of cost, and light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Students will also receive a certificate of attendance that they may add to their portfolio. Invitation is open to all currently enrolled first responder students, as well as those in corrections and dispatch programs. Seats are limited and will be provided on a first come first serve basis. In order to register, please email [email protected] with your full name, the program you are enrolled in, the school you are attending, and your year of study. We thank you in advance and look forward to seeing you in September

Founded by a group of dedicated paramedic students, we aim to link the Tema Conter Memorial Trust with students and faculty from the Centennial College Paramedic, Pre-Service Fire, Police Foundations, and Nursing programs.
By focusing on building knowledge, awareness, and skill sets for the unique challenges faced by emergency workers in Canada, we serve to cultivate resiliency skills and promote psychological well-being in students. In addition to increasing awareness about Tema and its mission, our student chapter assists students in developing tools necessary for a long, healthy career.
Our goals:
- To share relevant evidence-based skills that help build resilience in the face of occupational stressors
- To explore avenues in which Tema and the college can amalgamate services to provide future pathways for education and support to novice health care providers
- To provide educational and leadership opportunities for students within Tema's organization
- To reinforce the value of discovering and utilizing coping strategies through exposing students to healthcare professionals with experience in the field
- To reduce the negative stigma surrounding mental health, and encourage students to use the mental health resources available
