Great article on the importance of explicit instruction. If your child is not receiving this in school and is struggling in reading, I encourage you to find someone to work with them. Someone who understands and science of reading and structured literacy.

Check out this article on the importance of explicit instruction, specifically in structured literacy. Learning to read is not natural and children need clear, consistent instruction. Some children need more supports than others and that is okay. If the instruction is not provided in school, you may want to consider additional supports to ensure the building of a solid foundation.

I came across this on FB and it really resonated with me. I work with many students in my tutoring practice who are expected to memorize random lists of words - no connection, no links between and no context. We need to change our approach, in order to better support our students.

I am learning so much at the International Dyslexia Association Literacy and Learning Educator’s Conference. I feel validated in my approach to literacy for my students and am inspired by all I am learning. I am eager to apply it all to my practice and continue to support your kids.
