Why on earth is a table feminine (la table) but a book is masculine (le livre)? ๐คฏ๐ซ๐ท
If youโre learning French, youโve definitely asked yourself why every single inanimate object needs a gender. It feels like a trap! ๐ชค
Here is the truth: It has absolutely nothing to do with an object being "manly" or "girly." It all comes down to Latin roots and how the words evolved over centuries. Itโs grammatical gender, not biological! ๐งฌโก๏ธ๐

Imparfait or passรฉ composรฉ? ๐ซ๐ท
This is the mistake that almost every French learner makes. And it's also one of the most tested points at the TCF.
Il pleuvait quand je suis sorti. Two past tenses in one sentence. Same moment, different jobs.
Swipe through Rule 14 and you'll never mix them up again ๐

Why does French use the exact same verb for cooking, exercising, AND the weather? ๐คฏ๐ซ๐ท
If you are learning French, you have definitely noticed that the verb Faire (to do / to make) is literally everywhere!
Instead of memorizing 20 different specific verbs, French just uses this one powerhouse word for dozens of everyday actions. It is the ultimate vocabulary shortcut! โ๏ธ๐ง
Here are just a few ways we use it:
๐ณ Faire la cuisine (To cook)
๐โโ๏ธ Faire du sport (To exercise)
โ๏ธ Il fait beau (The weather is nice)
๐ Faire les courses (To grocery shop)
Mastering the expressions with Faire is one of the fastest ways to instantly sound more like a native speaker!

Still getting tangled up in the French past tense? ๐ตโ๐ซ๐ซ๐ท
Letโs fix that! The Passรฉ Composรฉ is your go-to tense for finished actions in the past, and itโs actually much easier than you think.
The Magic Formula: [Avoir or รtre in the present tense] + [Past Participle]
๐ Example: Hier, j'ai mangรฉ une pizza. (Yesterday, I ate a pizza).
Pop Quiz! ๐ How would you translate: "She had her breakfast" into French using the Passรฉ Composรฉ? (Hint: use the verb prendre).
