Don’t forget about tibialis anterior and fibularis longus when managing cases involving the great (G.O.A.T) toe 🐐

The foot is an incredibly intricate structure, constantly alternating between mobility and stability with every step. When we isolate our focus to just one joint, one muscle, or one symptom—without appreciating how interconnected the system is—we won’t get the results we want.

Understanding primary muscle actions is important—but in clinical practice, knowing where a muscle attaches, how it interacts with surrounding tissues, and how it contributes and collaborates to global movement is critical for long-term outcomes. 💥🚀

The NBA Achilles epidemic: The rate of non contact injuries in basketball is not normal. And should not be normalized.

Check out what our Live Reconditioning Case from Module 2 had to say about working with the BASE Team from Cohort 1 ⬇️

At BASE, we categorize cases in 2 ways:

🦶🏽Reconditioning: an individual with a chronic condition that has created adaptions for how their body can move and generate force.

Purpose: to re-establish neuromuscular connections. ⚡️

🦶🏽Performance: when there is already a solid foundation of general strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, stability & now we can challenge the body to generate as much power, force, speed, accuracy, and agility.

Purpose: to take the body to a whole other level. 🚀

This was a Reconditioning Case of chronic foot pain with activity from fractures of the sesamoid bones >10 years ago.

This aligned with the curriculum of Module 2: The History and Evolution of our BASE as we explored the evolutionary changes and demands of the human foot - specifically The Great Toe and its associated tissues. 🦶🏼

A true test of knowledge is being able to teach it—and that’s exactly what we strive for at the BASE Course. 💡

Our goal isn’t just memorization. It’s deep understanding, critical thinking, and a complete reframing of how we approach movement, rehab, and performance—so we can serve our patients and clients for a lifetime.

Take a listen to how our first cohort walked away from just ONE module with tools they could immediately apply to create real, meaningful outcomes. This is just the beginning. 🧠✨ 06/19/2025

Check out our Founder’s story, Dr. Joel Kerr.

“A whole lifetime of lessons, blessings, failures, and successes in one post.

It doesn’t even scratch the surface of what this journey has been— but every moment, challenge, and win shaped who I am today.

This is just the beginning of BASE. I am grateful for it all 🖤”

🗣️ The midfoot is the silent architect of movement—balancing tension and timing, translating ground into greatness. To move well, we must first build well. BASE starts From The Ground Up
👣
The midfoot is comprised of the navicular, medial, intermediate and lateral cuneiforms, and the cuboid. The bones of the midfoot form the medial longitudinal, the lateral longitudinal, and the transverse arches, which together comprise a half dome.
👣
The function of the midfoot is to transmit and attenuate force and allow the foot to accommodate to the variable surface of the ground.
👣
The arches are supported and controlled by a combination of bony congruency and static and dynamic extrinsic and intrinsic stabilizers.
The primary stabilizers of the midfoot are evolutionary adaptations favorable for bipedal locomotion and consist of the osseous, muscular, and ligamentous structures that support the longitudinal arches, calcaneocuboid, and tarsometatarsal articulations.
👣
The adaptations found in the human foot allow for various degrees of mechanical coupling of the forefoot to the rearfoot during gait (midtarsal locking) and control of dorsiflexion of the lateral tarsometatarsal joints (midtarsal break) during the stance phase
