Think well of God at the precipice of every cliff, though there are trials licking at your feet like the flames of an angry fire.
Think well of Him at the peak of every mountain, when you’re planting your flag and holding your successes like trophies in your fist.
Think well of Him at the centre of a blank page, when you do not have the words to explain how devastated and empty and alone you feel.
Think well of Allah.
He encompasses all of you, and all of the creatures in this existence, and all of the past, present, and future, in His wisdom and mercy.
He says Be, and it is.
He will save you from your trials and heal the wounds you’ve collected and held onto.
He will give you successes you’ve never even had the audacity to believe possible.
He’ll show you a way out of the place your body and heart and words are stuck.
Think well of Allah and feel your faith swell and multiply. He is as you believe Him to be: Good, Merciful, Loving, and All-Aware. Despite oppressors trying to extinguish His Light.
There is meaning and truth in everything when you know it all happens by His will.
Allah (swt) says in a Hadith Qudsi: “I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.”

For a long time I glorified the “hustle” mentality. The more tasks I’d get done in any given day, the more useful I’d feel. And if I did “nothing,” I’d feel unworthy, useless, guilty.
I had to answer emails and DMs within the hour or I’d feel anxious. I’d have to ship out your orders the same day, or they’d be hanging over me all night.
None of these things were forced on me. I chose them. And when I invited this kind stress into my life, I saw its physical ramifications. Aches and pains I never had before suddenly cropped up. I would get random headaches, and my stomach would always be upset.
When I’d go to the doctor, she’d say to me, “Are you stressed?” And I’d wonder, “What does THAT have to do with it?” But it does. Obviously.
Someone recently reminded me that my body is an amanah—a trust given to me by God. And if I’m forcing it to do things that bring pain upon it, then I have to wonder why.
So I promised myself more self compassion. So I’ve started being okay with pockets of doing “nothing.” I can spend time doing things I like as opposed to doing what will be the most “productive” right this moment. I don’t have to fill every free minute with a task just to feel like I’ve accomplished something.
The email can wait. The notification can be ignored. I deserve to rest my mind and body. And in that rest, there is reward from Allah (swt) because to care for my amanah is a form of worship.
Allah is Most Merciful. ❤️

Fatima bint Muhammad Al-Fihriya Al-Qurashiya founded the world’s first university in 895 CE in Fez, which is now in Morocco. She is more usually known simply as Fatima al-Fihri and when she and her sister inherited their father’s wealth she used her share to found The University of Al Qarawiynn.
The University of Al Quaraouiyine is the oldest existing, continually operating and the first degree-awarding educational institution in the world according to UNESCO and Guinness World Records. The institution was incorporated into Morocco's modern state university system in 1963. Education at Al Quaraouiyine University concentrates on the Islamic religious and legal sciences with a heavy emphasis on, and particular strengths in Classical Arabic grammar/linguistics and Maliki law. Teaching is delivered with students seated in a semi-circle around a sheikh, who prompts them to read sections of a text, asks them questions, and explains difficult points. The university is open to both men and women.
The University was founded with an associated madrasa, a specific type of religious school or college for the study of the Islamic religion, by Fatima al-Fihri, the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Fatima vowed to spend her inheritance on the construction of a mosque suitable for her community.
