Art is something that can speak to us all, regardless of age.

We visited the Art Gallery of Ontario during March Break and experienced the newly installed "Couch Monster". We still talk about the work and the story behind it.

From the AGO website:
Intrigued by the tragic story of Jumbo, a captive circus elephant who made international headlines when it was killed by a train in St. Thomas, Ontario, in 1885, [artist Brian] Jungen is deeply concerned with the terrible price all living things pay when forced to perform for others. That concern is embedded in the title of the work. “Once captured and trained, things are no longer themselves: Jumbo was no longer an elephant, but a monster created by humans for entertainment. Its will and spirit were broken,” he says.

🌨️❄️ Who's ready for some snow??!! ☃️

A snow storm is on its way to southern Ontario, where we're from. All day, the media's been talking about the impending troubles...

So does news about snow get you stressed or excited? Maybe a bit a both? It's all about perspective.

Remember, every moment can be unique. Can you be present in the moment? Enjoy the gifts it offers and have yourself an amazing Friday. 🤗

Try this! Take 5 "chews" to be in the moment. The next time you eat, embrace the experience with as many senses as you can.
Color. Texture. Sound. Temperature. Keep going...5-4-3-2-1. 🥰

Parents, please pay attention to this! 😊

Patient attention needs space and nurturing. In our modern world of always-on ever-connected pinging glowing screens, distractions abound to challenge careful rapt attention.

In addition, we understand there are many pressures to put our children in endless "enrichment activities" to give them greater "advantages" in knowledge and skills.

And yet here's a different and powerful insight from someone who's achieved what many of us don't even dare to dream for our children.

What's something you and your child can pay extra attention to today, together?

Our children will learn things we never imagined. 🧡 They may learn about truths and overcome challenges we never had to face.

And this is how we grow. Collectively. As a species across our globe and beyond.

Our (re)actions as adults will vary. Some of us may wish to shield our young from life's harsh realities. Some may lean away from discomfort themselves.

It's natural - and loving - to wish a future free of the suffering of generations past.

We don't rewrite history by revisiting it from diverse perspectives. We add to our understanding of where we've all come from. We reconcile our turmultous yesterdays for a brighter tomorrow.

From understanding comes empathy. From empathy comes love. From love comes action.

🥰 Children can gift us with feelings of infinite, unconditional love. ❤️

Their mere existence can evoke in us this powerful feeling.
And just like a flame shared across endless candles, love grows when spread.

We co-create the world we want. 🙏🏼

Often when we feel stuck, fear takes over, and we want to run away from something.
What if, instead, we find something that pulls us? 🤔

Let inspiration and love guide you. Find something to run towards. Purpose will give you focus.

And if you can create a common passion with your , all the better.....

Here's to "new beginnings". ❤️ Whether it's a new week or a new season, there's a gift when we pause and acknowledge the changes around us.

A new school year, a new month, a new day. It's a reminder to reflect on what's passed and what's to come.

Today marks the start of a new Jewish year. It's time for many to celebrate and to be present with our loved ones.

No matter what the occasion, have you decided on how you'd like this week to be for you?

May you fill it with loving experiences and create sweet memories.

🍁 What surprises will Autumn bring? 🍂

The Fall Equinox 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere is on September 22 at 9:04 pm Eastern Daylight Time - right when we're posting this!

As our days grow shorter and the weather gets colder, stay open to nature's cues.

And who knows? Maybe you'll also see a gift from a stranger in the form of random .

"Attention is the most basic form of love. By paying attention we let ourselves be touched by life, and our hearts naturally become more open and engaged."

This is a post about Perspective and Dancing Sunbeams.

We hiked for an hour to see this view. Climbing slowly along tree-lined trails. Another glorious day together as a family in the summer sun.

Our recent posts have been forming a theme:
Go at your own pace.
Creativity needs space.

Too often the narrative for parents is about "giving your kids an advantage" and making sure they're "future proof". With our minds so narrowly focused on the prize - a left-brain way of thinking - we deprive ourselves of the joys of taking pause. Of enjoying our lives. Simply.

While there are numerous benefits of and , valuing these activities for these reasons misses the point.

Wanting our children to engage in "right-brain thinking" so that they can be more creative, so that they're more competitive, so that...

What if next time, you're simply present and take in a new perspective?

And bonus if the angle of your camera lens captures a sunbeam dancing in the sky.
