➡️ Numbers, but Not Quite Whole: One reason fractions are confusing is because they represent parts of a whole, and that’s not something we’re used to thinking about every day. Whole numbers are easy — 1, 2, 3, etc. — but fractions like ½ or ¾ require us to think differently!

➡️ The Concept of Division: Fractions are essentially a division problem, and division is often one of the more challenging math operations for students to master. Breaking something down into parts, instead of putting it together, can feel less intuitive.

➡️ Different Forms, Same Meaning: Fractions come in many forms — improper fractions, mixed numbers, decimals — and knowing how to convert between them can be confusing for students. For example, ¾ is the same as 0.75 or 75%, but it doesn’t always seem that way!

➡️ Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying & Dividing Fractions: The rules change when you work with fractions. For example, when adding fractions, you need a common denominator, but when multiplying, you don’t! These different rules often trip people up.
