Ever had a Persian friend insist on paying… and then insist again? 😄
That’s taarof — a familiar part of Persian culture and everyday conversation.

At a restaurant, you might hear:
You’re my guest. I’m paying.
And the other person may answer. Let me pay.

Then the back-and-forth can keep going. 😄
Learning Persian isn’t just about vocabulary. It’s also about understanding how Iranians actually speak and interact in real life.

If a Persian tells you

“Ghadamet Rooye Cheshm” (قدمت روی چشم)

Don’t worry… they’re not asking you to put your foot on their eye! 😄

It’s one of the warmest Persian expressions, used to make someone feel truly welcome.

Have you ever heard this expression?

اگر یک ایرانی به شما بگوید:

«قدمت روی چشم»

قرار نیست واقعاً پایتان را روی چشمش بگذارید! 😄

این یکی از صمیمانه‌ترین و گرم‌ترین اصطلاحات فارسی برای خوشامد گفتن به مهمان است.

ایرانی‌ها، به نظر شما چرا می‌گوییم «قدمت روی چشم»؟
در کامنت‌ها برامون بنویسید.

Jashoon Khali Nabashe” is a warm Persian expression we use when someone we love is away and their absence is deeply felt.

«جاشون خالی نباشه» یک عبارت محبت‌آمیز فارسی است که وقتی یکی از عزیزان در جمع حضور ندارد، برای ابراز دلتنگی به کار می‌بریم.

Persians, when do you usually say this expression? Tell us in the comments.

Some Persian expressions sound dramatic… but they’re actually full of love.

“Ghorbonet beram” (قربونت برم) literally means “May I be sacrificed for you,” but that’s not what Persians mean.

It’s an affectionate expression we use for someone we love, care about, or simply find adorable.

Have you ever heard a phrase in another language that sounds completely different when translated literally?

👇 Tell me in the comments!

بعضی از اصطلاحات فارسی اگر کلمه به کلمه ترجمه شوند، خیلی عجیب به نظر می‌رسند

«قربونت برم» از آن جمله‌هاست
ترجمهٔ تحت‌اللفظی آن ممکن است عجیب به نظر برسد، اما در واقع فقط یک جملهٔ محبت‌آمیز است که برای کسی که دوستش داریم یا برایمان عزیز است به کار می‌بریم

شما به کسی که دوستش دارید چه می گویید؟

Not everything in Persian translates literally.

“Dastet dard nakone” literally means:

“May your hand not hurt.”

But what Persians really mean is:

“Thank you for your effort.”

We say it when someone cooks for us, helps us, gives us a gift, or does something thoughtful.

Learning Persian isn’t just about words—it’s about understanding the culture behind them.

👇 When would you say “Dastet dard nakone”? Tell me in the comments!

07/13/2026

Did you know that “چشم” (chashm) literally means “eye,” but Persians also use it to politely say “Of course!”?

One word.
Two completely different meanings.

That’s what makes Persian so fascinating.

Who do you usually say “chashm” to?
Tell us in the comments! 👇

آیا می‌دانستید «چشم» علاوه بر معنی اصلی‌اش، یک روش محترمانه برای گفتن «حتماً» هم هست؟

یک کلمه،
دو معنی کاملاً متفاوت.

همین تفاوت‌های ظریف، زبان فارسی را جذاب می‌کند.

شما معمولاً به چه کسانی «چشم» می‌گویید؟
در کامنت‌ها برای ما بنویسید.

What is Taarof?

I offered Claudio a cup of tea.
He said, “No, thank you.”

So... why did I offer it again?

Because that’s **taarof**.

Taarof is more than a word.
It’s a unique part of Iranian culture.

I showed Claudio just one example.
Now it’s your turn!

Can you teach Claudio another example of taarof? 👇

Why should Iranian kids growing up abroad learn Persian?

Persian is more than just a language.
It helps children talk to their grandparents, stay connected to their roots, and keep a part of their identity alive.

What do you think?
Should Iranian kids growing up abroad learn Persian? Why?

Tell us in the comments. 👇

⸻

Why do people learn Persian?

Many people think learning a language is all about grammar.

We think it’s about communication.

Talking with a partner.
Talking with family.
Understanding a culture.
Building meaningful connections.

Why do you think people learn Persian?
Tell us in the comments. 👇

⸻
