Beyond the Pose: Lessons from the Yamas and Niyamas for Mindful, Authentic Living by: Lisa Greenbaum
"At the beginning of 2009 I was working through my Yoga Teacher Training journey and taking the deep dive through yoga philosophy. In the same moment, my father was diagnosed with stage 4, inoperable and therefore terminal pancreatic cancer. This is a story of how these two worlds came together and forever changed and shaped me.
Either because of or in spite of this, I found yoga. Not the yoga that is often misunderstood for its fancy poses, and according to social media, also often in bikinis - but yoga. The yoga that is experienced by the very fibre of your being, each cell working in harmony from brain to heart to body and back again. The buzz of pranic energy that can come by merely thinking about its great power. The yoga where true magic happens."
I can't believe this is true 💫
➡️ My book - Beyond the Pose: Lessons from the Yamas and Niyamas for Mindful, Authentic Living is now officially available for pre-order at major bookstores in Canada, USA, UK and Australia

Too many times have I heard from folks who completed a YTT and don’t feel confident to teach. There are lots of reasons why this happens, perhaps you took your training on retreat or part of an online program, or maybe it’s just been too long and life got in the way before you could do any practicing.
I designed Yoga Teaching Skills with this in mind. For Sangha Yoga Collective, this is the final module for our students to complete their 200-hr YTT, but this training is also open to ANYONE who currently holds their 200-hr and looking for a refresh.
Yoga Teaching Skills is not just about instruction—it’s about embodiment, leadership, and sharing yoga as a transformative practice. This module ensures you’re not only ready to teach yoga but to serve your community with authenticity, skill, and compassion.
Learn:
- How to build strong sequences for both active and gentle classes
- Working with themes to deepen the intention behind your classes
- Creating a database of alignment-based cues for diverse students and bodies
- Learning how to observe and adjust misalignments compassionately and effectively
- Group work and practice teaching asana (poses)
- Group work and practice leading guided meditation and mindfulness
We also include a 3-hr Business Skills training and 1-hr Mentorship call with your trainer to make sure you have all the tools you need along with the confidence to step out into the world of teaching.
Our next session runs this July in Toronto (in person only) - we’d love to have you join us! canfitpro members save 10% with code: cfpyoga10

Within Ayurveda, a sister science to Yoga and considered the science of life, this time of year is the kapha time. Kapha is earthy and damp, cool and slow. Imagine all the tiny seeds that have been frozen in the ground for many (many) months now gently awakening.
🌱
A major frustration to anyone living in the northern hemisphere and in particular those that deal with harsh winters, is the patience required through spring. But patience is what is most needed at this time. No matter how many times you stare at those tiny seedlings bursting through the earth, you can’t make them grow. We have no control over the weather, but yet every single year without fail, the summer arrives and the flowers all bloom.
🌱
To embrace kapha energy we need to embrace the slowness, we need patience, but we also need to continue to gently forge ahead. This is a powerful time for space clearing both physical and energetically. When our journaling and meditations can help us start to break out of the fog and into the light.
🌱
I am grateful for this time myself, as I am ready, but not quite ready at the same time to dive back in to all the things. I want to stay connected with what is most important to me, and where my light truly shines and spend my time there, in that space. I am working on filling my cup back up and slowly I am coming back to the light.
