It's been a productive time off from my day job and finally got a whole bunch of projects done or almost done!

Trustee work: Our first IATEFL Membership Survey since I took on this role has been collated together. It's a wonderful, mammoth project. Can't wait for nerdy folks to dig into it. Very, very soon! 🤓 Also updated some promo slides for the association... finally.

Freelance work: Starting the draft of a new episode, featuring Mitts (Thiago Mittoso), a q***r teacherpreneur in Brazil! I've missed working on werkbook. 🌈

Speaker work: 50th FAAPI Conference 10/1-3 and Teaching While Q***r 10/10-11 talks ready to go! 🗣

Authoring work: Academic Reading Circles ARC - a teacher's resource book follow-up edited volume of uses around the world is in its review with the publisher and my book proposal for Pavillion ELT on q***rness is in their hands. 📖

BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 Turkish police detained at least 150 people outside an Istanbul courthouse Tuesday for protesting the arrest of LGBTQ+ activists — including two journalists who were covering the protest

The crowd outside Istanbul's Çağlayan courthouse on Tuesday had come to read a press statement out loud. Police surrounded them before they could finish, warned that the gathering was unauthorized, and loaded people onto police buses. Two journalists covering the protest were taken too. The banner people got up in time read "Being LGBT+ and organizing is not a crime."

They were chanting "Long live life in defiance of hate" as officers moved in.

Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said prosecutors in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Aydin and Mersin are investigating 162 suspects, nine associations and 13 businesses across 15 provinces, in an operation the government calls "My Family is Safe."

He said it was meant to "protect children, the institution of the family, and public order." What police actually raided over the weekend: LGBTQ+ association offices, HIV awareness groups, gay bars and activists' homes.

At least 26 people were detained in Istanbul and 21 in Ankara. On Monday, a court in Izmir jailed 16 people pending trial.

Websites and social media accounts belonging to LGBTQ+ groups, individual activists and independent news outlets have been blocked, including the X account of Amnesty International's Turkey branch.

"We are going through a period where there is an attempt by the ruling power to portray LGBT+ people as the cause of every problem in this society," Banu Aslan, 36, one of the protesters, said.
