It is with profound grief and immense respect that we commemorate the life and legacy of Sue Prado, a true legend in Philippine independent cinema.

Her indelible mark on the industry is profound, exemplified by her powerful performance in Jun Robles Lana’s “Anak Ka Ng Ina Mo” aka “Your Mother’s Son,” a film that spotlighted Filipino talent at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023.

Beyond her artistry, Sue was a pillar of support, championing Sine Institute from its founding, standing firmly behind our first year.

Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but her legacy will continue to inspire and live on in cinema and with all of her family, friends and colleagues.

The film Tingga moved audiences not only through its powerful storytelling, but through the incredible journey behind it. Director Filbert Wong discovered lead actor Bogs, who came into the film with no prior acting experience.

Bogs bravely takes on the challenge and provides an authentic take on the role, and sets him on this new journey and experience as an actor.

This also reflects strongly on Wong’s vision and gift, to have recognized Bogs’ talent, combined with his equally raw and real life experiences, and know that these components will make his vison for Tingga come to reality.

During , Bogs shared an emotional moment of gratitude, thanking everyone who believed in him and led him to this unexpected path. It was honest, humbling, and deeply moving. This was only one of the many moments that made Sine Film Fest so memorable.

Follow us at and join our initiatives to keep being a medium for uncovering voices, creating opportunities, and celebrating the heart behind Filipino storytelling.

A special moment of one filmmaker uplifting another.

In this reaction to Tingga shown at Siné Film Fest, we hear heartfelt praise and support for its Director and Writer, Filbert Wong, from a fellow Filipino filmmaker, Jim Libiran. A reminder that even beyond the films, the community behind them allows this industry to create an even greater impact.

This is the purpose of Siné Institute — to bring Filipino talent, expertise and creativity together, create space for capacity-building, learning and dialogue, and uplift the craft as one. When we champion each other’s work, we strengthen not just individual voices, but the future of Filipino film in Canada and globally.

We are grateful to all who helped make our vision for Siné a reality!
