What an incredible day in Windsor, Ontario. I had the opportunity to attend the WE-SPARK Health Institute Grant Program Awards as we celebrated the next phase of a project that means a lot to me.

Our project with Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare received funding to study how mental health support and personalized academic support can work together for children and youth who are struggling with school attendance.

Through this work, my team at JonAyves Learning Club will be delivering personalized sessions to students receiving mental health services, using our short, batched, 1:1 virtual session model.

School attendance and engagement are a few of the metrics to be measured.

A huge thank you to WE-SPARK Health Institute, the sponsors, and donors who make this research possible, and everyone who helped bring the event together.

It was also fantastic seeing the grant recipients across verticals including cancer research, and hearing about the research happening across so many areas of health.

A special thank you to Patrick Kolowicz, Dr. Jennifer Voth, Andrew Ward, Karen Metcalfe, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, and Maryvale Children’s Mental Health. Definitely looking forward to this collaboration that JonAyves gets to be part of.

We’ve spent years thinking about how education can support children beyond grades alone.

Now we get to continue studying it with community partners.

Who Won The Africa Country Challenge?

Jonah and Ayva are back on the continent of Africa, going for round two to see who can name even more countries this time. Same rules apply: no hints, no help, just whatever they can pull from memory.

It's always interesting watching how kids approach a challenge like this. A few countries come out instantly, others take some real thinking, and there are usually a couple of guesses along the way that get a laugh.

Geography is one of those subjects that clicks a lot better when it's turned into a game instead of a worksheet. Naming countries, thinking about location, and trying to beat a sibling is way more motivating than memorizing a list.

Play along and see how many countries you can name before they get to the end. Then drop a comment with who you think won, and find out if you're right.

Name These African Countries...First To 5

Jonah and Ayva are taking on a new continent this time: Africa. The challenge is the same as always, see who can name more countries, with no hints and no looking anything up.

It's always interesting watching how kids approach a challenge like this. Some countries come out right away, others take a bit more thinking, and there are usually a few surprises along the way.

Who Won The Asia Country Challenge...9 Or 12 Year Old?

Jonah and Ayva are back with another challenge, and this time it's all about Asia. The goal was simple: see who could name more countries on the continent, so it turned into a friendly competition with the cameras rolling.

It's always interesting watching how kids approach a challenge like this. Sometimes they pull out a country nobody expected them to know, and other times the guesses get pretty funny. It's a great way to see how much sticks from everyday conversations and lessons at home.

Thanks Brant Community Healthcare System and to the team for collaborating in getting this started with us.

Looking forward to working with BCHS outpatients, partnering in an initiative targeting the link between mental health and education for student anxiety.

Many students become outpatients of BCHS due to anxiety or other reasons that prevent them from attending their regular school days.
In response, we have partnered with JonAyves Learning Club to offer one-on-one virtual learning sessions 📚 Our goal is to help these students build confidence in their education, ultimately aiming to improve their mental health and willingness to attend school.

JonAyves Learning Club x BCHS partnership is a pilot program designed to support students from K-12 with literacy and numeracy.

The best part? Students won’t need to leave their homes to participate. JonAyves Learning Club has found that virtual sessions greatly benefit families, offering accessible, structured learning support. 💻
