What are the different types of brigades?
Swipe to find out! ➡️
🔹As a part of the sustainable holistic initiative for global health, Global Brigades offers many different types of brigades. 🔹Public health and medical brigades aim to address direct health issues. 🔹Water and engineering brigades aim to address access to clean water and sanitation. 🔹Law and business brigades aim to address legal and financial consulting. 🔹At UTSC, we currently have an active medical brigades chapter and will be aiming to implement another chapter soon! Any ideas on what our next brigade chapter should be? We’d love to hear your thoughts! 🌏💙

Happy New Year!
As we begin this new year, we may have set academic and career goals for ourselves that we are unsure how to start. One of those big goals may be applying to med school. If that applies to you, check out BeMo’s services that aid premed students with their applications!
Take a few minutes to book a consultation during which you can reflect on your accomplishments and discuss how to move forward during this new year.
We wish everyone the very best this year and good luck!!

Medical Consult
In this station, volunteers shadowed two physicians while they addressed patient concerns. The physician and patient communicated in Spanish and the physicians translated what was being said to the volunteers. They answered any and all questions about each case, for both the volunteers and patients. The health issue we saw most commonly was high blood pressure.
The physician would then prescribe medications and refer them to any other necessary station. They also performed necessary pap tests and prostate exams.
This station was a great learning experience for what it is like to speak with patients, note family history, and address concerns.

Orange leaves? Sweaters out? Pumpkin patch pictures on your social media feed?
That means it's time for YSYF's fall fundraiser! On Saturday, October 23rd, we will be hosting a collaborative charity livestream where we will be fundraising for one of our major initiatives: building a vocational training space in Doryumu, Ghana. This meaningful cause supports YSYF's mission of amplifying the rights of women and youth in Ghana through advocacy and action for economic, educational, and health development.
This livestream will be a collaboration that will involve many different organizations, and will last from 2-10 PM. We will have a diverse array of programming, including guest talks by people that work with us on the ground in Ghana, party games, Ghanaian crafts, and a talk by Dr. George Dei from the University of Toronto. The livestream will feature a rotating panel of guests who will participate in the various activities, ask questions, and perform challenges to encourage viewers to donate. That's right - viewers like YOU will be able to chat with us and help us reach donation thresholds throughout the night for which the panelists will perform challenges and dares! Since it's a livestream, viewers can drop in and out at any time, and stay as long as they like. Viewers will be able to watch the livestream through the YouTube Live link (will be posted in our bio soon!)
