I got a call this week from someone at her wit’s end, her dog’s anxiety and overprotectiveness years in the making.

She wanted it fixed fast, and I get it, but real healing doesn’t work that way.

It starts small, with boundaries, and staying calm even when he doesn’t feel it. Him gaining confidence, instead of a job he never asked for.

Patience over shortcuts, every time.

While I was recovering, Finn followed me room to room, making sure he always knew exactly where I was. Normally he’s completely fine on his own in another room. But when I wasn’t feeling well, he was right there, trying to help me heal.

There’s a fine line between him caring for me and him carrying anxiety because of it. Our pets can take a lot. But that doesn’t mean it’s always fair for us to let them.

When we’re going through something big, it’s worth asking how much of it we’re passing onto them without meaning to.

A new dog doesn’t unpack a lifetime of habits in a week. And neither did you, the first time you moved somewhere new.

New sounds, new smells, new rules, a whole new family to figure out. It takes time to feel safe somewhere unfamiliar, for dogs and for people.

If you just brought a rescue home, give them time. Give yourself time too.

The last two weeks haven’t been easy and my boy Finn knew exactly what to do. He stayed close to me, kept my energy up and somehow he always knew when I needed him the most.

Our pets are old souls, here for something much bigger than we give them credit for. Always willing to help us and give unconditional love.

When your dog or cat’s nervous system is regulated they can notice something without reacting. A loud noise outside, the stranger at the door, a sudden change, they feel it but don’t react.

Energetically, that is the third eye, root, and solar plexus working together. The third eye senses it, the root decides if it’s actually safe, and the solar plexus decides how to respond.

If my dog was terrified of thunderstorms, this is exactly what I’d do first.

🤍 Get them somewhere quiet, away from windows, a basement if you have one
🤍 Give them a soft place to lay down
🤍 Put on calming music or sound, like Chakra Frequencies for pets
🤍 Stay calm yourself, it really does help more than you’d think
🤍 And just stay with them, so they know they’re not going through it alone

Storms can be so overwhelming for our pets (and especially dogs) and all we can really do is help them feel safe until it passes.
