Our next session is Abstract Women! We will look at women's role in shaping abstract art history, and we will do some creative writing exercises using selected works by women painters. This is a wine and art night, so feel free to bring your favourite Merlot or a pot of tea, as we gather together to relax, converse, learn, and write.

I'm so excited about this very special course, Drawing the Light, with the London Arts-Based Research Centre, on photography and ekphrasis, because, as you might guess, I have a special love for the art of photography. It's an absolutely fascinating story of science, technology, business, and art, and women were involved in every facet of its trajectory from earliest days until now. In this course we will look at the history of photography, its rapid changes and developments along the way, its impact on art in general, and how it can fuel our poems and stories. We will look at some of the greats of photography, with a special emphasis on women. Loads of writing exercises! A big thank you to Roula-Maria Dib, director of LABRC, and the team. Don't miss this!

Join us Friday for a Zoom on French Academic painter William Adolphe Bouguereau. Recognized as the top academic painter of all time, Bouguereau staunchly rejected the movement to modernism and insisted on traditional techniques in art and classical subject matter. He was driven by beauty through and through. We will look at acclaim, controversies, and mythological themes in his body of work, as well as at his life story, tragically losing his wife and children, and later marrying a student who became a master painter herself.
