Back from my 3rd breakdown of the day 😢 I can’t explain this though… because this is exactly what I worked so hard for - the career, the responsibility, the success.

But as a high achiever, we don’t stop when we’re overwhelmed.

We push through. We deliver. We take on one more thing… Until being “capable” starts to feel exhausting.

You don’t need to become less ambitious. You need to learn how to get out of on mode before you hit your breaking point.

Start with 3 slow breaths and ask: “What actually needs my energy right now?”

Not everything needs 100% of you.

That’s what my FREE Calm Reset helps you practice - calm without sacrificing your success.

If we haven’t met, I’m Erika 👋 corporate HR leader, yoga teacher and leadership coach helping high-achieving women find calm in their careers without sacrificing success.

Save this for your next “I can’t do this anymore” day.

Why are you so capable and still not applying for that manager role?

You’ve become highly aware of everything you don’t know. You notice the experience you don’t have, the areas you haven’t worked in and skills you still want to develop.

You think:
“I haven’t done that exact job before.”
“I’m not sure I’m experienced enough.”
“What if they think I’m too young?”
“What if someone else is more qualified?”

So you wait.

You tell yourself you’ll apply when you have more experience, more confidence, or when you feel 100% ready.

But there’s another question us high-achievers need to ask ourselves:Do I actually not want the role, or am I afraid I won’t be good enough at it?

Because sometimes the hesitation isn’t about capability. It’s about the life that comes with the next level.

Maybe you have young kids now.
Maybe work-life balance matters more to you than it used to.
Maybe you’re wondering whether the extra responsibility, workload and expectations are worth it.

And that’s a completely valid question.

You don’t need to convince yourself to climb every career ladder.

But you also don’t want fear, perfectionism or overthinking making the decision for you.

So before you automatically say “I’m not ready,” ask yourself:

1. Can I do it?
Look at the actual requirements. You don’t need to know everything on day one.

2. Do I want it?
Think beyond the title. What would this role actually require from you?

3. What would make it sustainable?
What boundaries, flexibility, support or resources would make this opportunity work for your life?

Sometimes the answer will be no.

And sometimes you’ll realize: “I actually am capable. I just needed to stop disqualifying myself.”

The goal isn’t to push yourself into the next promotion. It’s to make the decision from clarity instead of overthinking.

If you’re a high-achiever who gets stuck in your head about your next move, my FREE Calm Reset can help you move from overwhelm and overthinking toward calm, clarity and intentional action.

Does anyone else feel the same way about their achievements?

Yesterday, I facilitated a session for 278 leaders including the executive leadership team. I got SO many compliments afterward. People told me I did a great job, my CAO was happy and I even got a shoutout from the Deputy.

And yet… my brain immediately went:

I could’ve shortened that.
I could’ve said more here.
I could’ve transitioned better.

And I thought… why is it so hard for me to just let myself feel proud?

If you’re a high-achieving woman, maybe you’re familiar with this cycle:

Achieve → analyze → find what could be better → move on to the next thing

You’re successful from the outside, but your brain rarely lets you feel successful.

That constant “what’s next?” mindset can leave you feeling like you’re always on - even when things are actually going well.

So yesterday I decided to interrupt this cycle. Instead, I told myself:

“Erika, you did really well. You should be proud of yourself.” 🤍

Because wanting to improve doesn’t mean you have to criticize yourself.

If we haven’t met, I’m Erika 👋 Corporate HR leader (13+ years), leadership coach and yoga instructor. I help high-achieving women find more calm in their careers without sacrificing their success.

If you’re tired of feeling like you always need to do more, I created a FREE Calm Reset to help you step out of always-on mode and create a little more space to breathe, reset and reconnect with yourself.

A senior HR executive once told me this over a coffee chat:

“High performers can get stuck because they become too valuable where they are.”

That stayed with me.

Because one of the hardest things for a high achiever is realizing that doing everything right doesn’t always guarantee the outcome you want.

You deliver.
You take on more.
You become the person everyone counts on.

And then someone else gets the promotion.

The pain isn’t just being overlooked. It’s what happens next:

“Maybe I’m not good enough.”
“Maybe I need to work even harder.”
“Maybe I’m the problem.”

This is where resilience matters.

Instead of turning disappointment into self-doubt, separate the outcome from your identity.

Ask yourself:
→ What is actually within my control?
→ What can I learn from this?
→ What do I want to do next?

You don’t need to deny the disappointment. You need to stop letting it define you.

A career setback is information, not a verdict on your worth.

And if you’re wondering, “Okay, but how do I actually build resilience when this happens to me?”

That’s Part 2! Follow Erika Wang | HR • Mindfulness and stay tuned! I’ll share exactly how to build resilience when you’re a high performer who keeps getting overlooked.
