New additions to movement learning. Many of my classes incorporate movement, not only as a way to burn extra energy but also to build muscle, coordination, and proprioception.
An observation in the last 3 years is that our young people are given less and less opportunities to build balance. This can been seen in every aspect of their lives and also in their handwriting. Handwriting??? Yes, that is correct. If a body is not able to cross midlines or react in a rapid manner to what the brain is signaling, it shows in their handwriting. Learning, growing, body awareness, it is all interconnected.
So as a new addition, we have a level 3 hard balance board from the Montréal based company . This version has a safety boarder so anyone attempting doesn't fall flat on their face. Our young people need to do hard things with real physical challenge. I have my students on the balance boards while we are doing language, reading, and even writing drills. It gives their brain the add stimulate, dopamine hits, and activates other parts of their brain while activating and rewriting neural pathways to commit phoneme-graphemes to memory.
This one's is for all those wiggly bodies. Let's build balance and literacy at once.
Keep moving, naturally, and unlock the keys to English.
