New additions to movement learning. Many of my classes incorporate movement, not only as a way to burn extra energy but also to build muscle, coordination, and proprioception.

An observation in the last 3 years is that our young people are given less and less opportunities to build balance. This can been seen in every aspect of their lives and also in their handwriting. Handwriting??? Yes, that is correct. If a body is not able to cross midlines or react in a rapid manner to what the brain is signaling, it shows in their handwriting. Learning, growing, body awareness, it is all interconnected.

So as a new addition, we have a level 3 hard balance board from the Montréal based company . This version has a safety boarder so anyone attempting doesn't fall flat on their face. Our young people need to do hard things with real physical challenge. I have my students on the balance boards while we are doing language, reading, and even writing drills. It gives their brain the add stimulate, dopamine hits, and activates other parts of their brain while activating and rewriting neural pathways to commit phoneme-graphemes to memory.

This one's is for all those wiggly bodies. Let's build balance and literacy at once.

Keep moving, naturally, and unlock the keys to English.

For the 2025-2026 nordic skiing season we are delighted to be a silver sponsor for the Lappe Nordic team. I believe giving youth the opportunity to compete in competitive sports is such an important part of life. Competitive sports are what got me through my elementary, middle, and high school years, and I am so pleased to be able to support one of our local teams. Go Lappe Nordic Team and good luck on the upcoming races.

Come get ready with me as I layout what studying looks like for the first phase of C-SLDS qualification with CERI. This studying is for the KPEERI exam.

This is an unmasked dyslexic experience video. Note that it takes me 2 or 3 times as long to study because my reading per minute is significantly lower than the average nuerotypical person. Although wickedly frustrating, I've accepted this is part of the way I have to study written content.

End of September, one month into the school year. Week 2 of fall session.

Not everyone is able to make it to class. September is alot, new habits and routines can push brains into hightened states and cause disruptions in daily tasks. Sometimes, the transition from one space to another is enough to freeze the brain and propel the nervous system into survival mode. For those students, I adjust and personalize our approach to literacy.

This is a quick view of what that can look like.

For someone who is learning how to read and Spell sometimes having 1 or 2 expectations quiets the noise in the brain that can manifest as: the sense of doom, pressure, and fear of failure. This allows creativity to flow and the self to attempt the hard thing. A big part of having a reading or spelling disability is the negative self talk. With manageable expectations and loose parameters, learners are free to take those tentative steps outside of their survival state and explore the hard thing on their own terms, free of judgment.

The most beautiful bookstore in the world. I had to stop by and experience Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal. This bookstore in operation since 1906 was one of many sites in Portugal that inspired J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books. This Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture bookstore is covered in books from floor to ceiling in 5 different languages. An incredible winding staircase and wooden detailings through out. Truly magical. And ofcourse I had to buy a few books, although in English not Portuguese.

A new school year is upon us. Nerves and excitment is high. Every year, September is full of emotions, hopes, dreams, and new routines.

Sending love and care to the 1-5 dyslexic children and the neurodivergent children who will be doing the hard thing every day and entering an environment that was not built for their brains. We see you brave ones. You build grit every. Single. Day. And we are proud of you.

I am so excited to announce Naturally Literate Reading Clinic is a proud supporter and sponsor for the Lappe Ski Team.

As a child, sports helped me get through school. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to give back and help this sport be more accessible to our young skiers.

Good luck this season and see you out there!
