In Year One of separation, this theme is a big deal.
Of course every single situation is different but the overall principle is:
do everything possible to allow your kids to form their own relationship (or lack thereof) with the other parent.
Your focus is to be their safe place, their sounding board (if needed), and a model for healthy family relationships. Just don’t be the critic: you’re more likely to earn your kids’ resentment and not their agreement.
I’ve written a free guide for families in Year One of marital separation, which you can grab for at the link in my bio.
