🦺 February is Injury Prevention Month – Let’s Keep Workplaces Safe!
✅ Cold weather hazards make operating forklifts, aerial lifts, and heavy equipment even riskier.
✅ Slips, trips, and falls increase on icy yards and loading docks.
✅ Equipment misuse leads to crushed limbs, tip-overs, and falls.
Workplace safety has come a long way, but preventable injuries still happen every day—especially in winter conditions.
No matter the season, proper training is the key to preventing injuries before they happen. Whether you’re handling a forklift, elevated work platform, crane or other our courses teach safe operation, risk reduction, and best practices for a safer workplace.
Let’s make 2025 the safest year yet!

🚨 Safety First: The Importance of Pre-Use Inspections 🚨
Recently while on site for loader backhoe operator training, our team was able to catch a potentially dangerous issue while conducting a pre-use inspection: a broken linkage on the bucket tilt cylinder. Failure to identify this issue may have resulted in a serious failure of the equipment.
✔️ Why are pre-use inspections essential?
1⃣ Identify Issues Early: Catching a minor problem before it turns into a major failure keeps everyone safe and productive.
2⃣ Compliance Matters: Regular inspections ensure your equipment meets safety standards and regulations (it's the law!)
3⃣ Protect Your Investment: Proper care extends the lifespan of your equipment and minimizes repair costs.
💡 Tip: Use a detailed inspection checklist to properly document your inspections and make sure nothing gets overlooked!
At Pivot Industrial Training Services, we’re committed to helping your team learn how to navigate these complex challenges when operating various types of equipment.

🚫 Safety Alert: Spot the Mistake!
Here’s an example of what NOT to do on a scissor lift. 👀
✅ Correct Practice: Always keep your feet planted on the platform deck and stay within the guardrails. Sitting or climbing on the rails is extremely unsafe, as "Falls from height" is the #1 leading cause of fatalities on Mobile Elevating Work Platforms, due to inadequate Fall Protection or unsafe practices.
What about fall protection harnesses? 🤔 Many believe you never need one on a scissor lift, but WorkSafe BC clarifies:
“… a person on a scissor lift that is on a firm, level surface with no irregularities to cause platform instability is exempt from wearing a personal fall arrest system, provided that all manufacturer’s guardrails and chains are in place.…”
🔧 At Pivot Industrial Training, we teach operators how to navigate complex scenarios like this, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

🚧 Safety Reminder: Stable Ground Matters! 🚧
When operating MEWPs like boom lifts and scissor lifts, proper ground surface and support conditions are non-negotiable for safety. Using unstable materials, like weak wood for leveling, can lead to tip-overs or equipment damage, putting everyone at risk.
📊 Did you know? Overturns are the second leading cause of MEWP-related fatalities, often due to poor ground assessment. Don’t become a statistic—prioritize stability!
✅ Key Tips:
Always assess ground conditions for load-bearing capacity.
Use proper stabilizers, outriggers, and secure materials.
Train operators to recognize unsafe setups.
🛑 Remember: Safety first is stability first. Don’t cut corners when lives are on the line!
🚧 Watch as our team highlights the importance of verifying overhead clearances. Luckily the operator was wearing his PPE and got away with minor injuries. But this near-miss with a steam pipe serves as a reminder that adequate training can significantly reduce accidents 🚧
At Pivot Industrial Training, we’re committed to ensuring everyone goes home safe.
