Myth: Some students just aren’t “math people.”
But neuroscience tells a different story.
Students who struggle in math may be dealing with:
• Dyscalculia
• Math anxiety
• Weak number sense
• Cognitive processing gaps
When educators understand what’s really happening in the brain, instruction changes—and students begin to succeed.
The 2026 NILD Annual Conference will explore how neuroscience and practical classroom strategies can help educators support students who struggle with mathematics.
Because when we understand the why, we can change the how.
