Sound Symposium is looking for volunteers!
Putting off a nine day and nine night symposium of sound that sprawls concert halls, cathedrals, a beach, a garden a swimming pool, and other immersive locales is a co-operative labor of love - and we could use a hand! We are looking for volunteers to work front of house duties like handling merchandise, handing out flyers and other related activities.

Meet Dr. Kati Szego. 👋 She will be teaching "Music of Africa and the Americas" this fall.
Dr. Szego joined Memorial in 1995 establishing our ethnomusicology program. Her ongoing research projects on Hawaiian choral music, falsetto singing and yodeling are subsumed by her larger interests in intercultural processes and discourses on vocal production.
💬 "I love teaching the 'Musics of Africa and the Americas' course, even though we can’t possibly do justice to music on 3 continents in one semester! We’ll move beyond stereotypical understandings of 'African music' and look at socio-musical legacies of the Atlantic slave trade. I’m seeking local culture bearers to help us understand Indigenous sound practices here in the northeastern part of North America. And like a lot of folks, I’m working to decolonize my listening—hoping to engage students in that project too."
