October is Cyber Awareness Month!

Our phones travel everywhere with us, and they contain our photos, passwords, banking information, school accounts, emails, and personal conversations.

Protect your device by keeping software updated, using a strong screen lock, downloading apps only from trusted sources, and avoiding unsecured public Wi-Fi whenever possible.

Find more tips, videos and conversation starters at www.k-12cyberawareon.ca/digital-me.

Today, we take time to listen, learn and reflect as we honour Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities.

In our schools, we continue to learn about Indigenous histories, cultures and experiences and look for meaningful ways to walk together on the path toward reconciliation. 🧡 Every Child Matters.🧡

Support is here for every student. Our mental health counselling team is here to support students as they navigate school, work toward their goals and thrive in their school environment. School counselling is part of the suite of services offered through our Board’s Mental Health Department.

Counsellors can support students with:
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Developing healthy coping skills
✨ Building personal resilience
✨ Connecting with community services
✨ And much more!

If you feel a student in your home needs the services of one of our student and family counsellors, please contact your child’s teacher or principal(s).

In honour of 9 to 5 Day, SMC students donated $1,000 to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ontario, helping put books into the hands of young readers and inspiring a lifelong love of reading. 📖🌟 Great job, SMC! The City of Sault Ste. Marie
