Silverspring Elementary School

The grade 6s had such an amazing time at Museum Days at the WDM in North Battleford. They participated in activities such as rope making, butter and ice cream making, riding in 1920s cars as well as an old fire truck, and horses and wagon. The outdoor village even had a blacksmith who made the class beautiful souvenirs. This was all done by volunteers! They ended their day with going out for pizza before heading back home. Check them out cruising around OLD SCHOOL!

A few students came to their principal last week with an idea and a love of Harry Potter. They made up some skits and asked if an announcement could be made to see if anyone might want to enjoy their creations. Today was the day and so many students supported them by showing up! Love that our students support one another and their interests!

Before we have to say FAREWELL to our grade 8 leaders they celebrated their elementary days together and enjoyed a day full of animals and fun activities out at Rosthern Youth Farm.

Our Gr. 8 mathematicians put their design skills to the test in today’s Pitch-A-Chip challenge! Students constructed chip boxes using specific materials, criteria, and design restrictions while applying their understanding of volume to create the ultimate chip container.

The big moment arrived today when each box was launched off of a T-ball stand to test its durability! 💥 Some boxes soared, some tumbled, and a few spectacularly exploded - but every design showcased creativity, problem-solving and mathematical thinking.

Who knew calculating volume could be this exciting? 📏 📐

We kicked off PRIDE month with a school-wide walk. Our diversity is a strength and in SPS we believe in being welcoming and inclusive to all. We are so proud to have everyone be part of our school community!

At Silverspring we have a tradition-get fabulous teachers to encourage students to become runners, get many students to join MaraFun, improve stamina, gain confidence, get some awesome parents to join in the fun, and host a SCHOOL RUN to celebrate together! This year more than 155 joined and first thing this morning they all crossed the finish line! Thanks to for the arch!

A few gems to listen to from today’s afternoon and evening band concerts. This year it was a bit nostalgic for some of the audience with 150 grade 6-8 band students doing the classic « Let’s go band » finale! It was true surround sound!

Afternoon session was on the fast track to FUN! So many PBs and SMILES 😃.
