Forest Gardens Farm

Forest Gardens Farm Guided by the concepts of Permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, 8 Shields and Buddhism

Not liking the direction mainstream society was headed, our family decided it was time to head for the hills and start homesteading. With the help of permaculture, the internet, manual labour and the last few drops of fossil fuels we’re trying to create a self-sufficient lifestyle on a piece of previously logged wilderness.

In the spirit of radical inclusivity and the gift economy we have decided to make the course “Pay what you can!”

The 2025 Permaculture Design Certificate Course starts in two weeks and there are still a few spots left.

No one should be denied access to the tools to help them live a better life because they don’t have enough coloured pieces of plastic. If you have been wanting to dive into Permaculture now is the time to be able to do so without anything to lose.

Has the disintegration of the US government and threat of international trade wars got you thinking more about how to make your local community more resilient and abundant?

Permaculture Design won't solve all your problems, but it will give you a sweet set of tools to create regenerative solutions for your life and community.

“Though the problems of the world are increasingly complex,
the solutions remain embarrassingly simple.”
― Bill Mollison

We're excited to announce the 2025 Permaculture Design Certificate Course happening on this season on Salt Spring Island.

Permaculture quote of the day:

The greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production, even if on a small scale, in our own gardens. If only 10% of us do this, there is enough for everyone. Hence the futility of revolutionaries who have no gardens, who depend on the very system they attack, and who produce words and bullets, not food and shelter.

~ Bill Mollison

If you're ready to shift your life from one of consumption to one of production, and want to help grow the food revolution then check out the Permaculture Design Certificate Course we're offering this year!

Forest Garden Applications Now Open!

For many people, living a more sustainable and communal lifestyle is a big part of their future vision. But there are many tiny (and then bigger) steps to get there. What community model suits you best, what skills and attitudes need to be prioritized, and what your community role could look like all take some time and experimentation to understand.

A single community can't meet the desires of everyone out there, but there are many different types and the right one for the step you're on does exist. Of course, we'd love to have you be part of the Forest Gardens team, but we do encourage people to look around. See what's out there. Choose the one that seems the best for you. Then jump in! It's bound to be the learning experience of a lifetime.

A season apprenticeship on a farm is a great way to test the waters. Once you're done your research, getting hands on experience helps dig deeper into what you want and need. Staying on from Spring to Fall allows you to see the seasonal shifts and how they impact the work flow when living close with the land.

You can visit the Connect page of our website to learn more about what we are doing, and how to get involved with us this season. If it all aligns, we're looking forward to hearing from you!
