Germany is a cool climate growing region known mostly for it's Riesling as well as ripe and earthy Pinot Noir (AKA Spätburgunder).
Some maybe unknown grapes you'll see in this region are Müller-Thurgau (a simple aromatic white wine with peach and floral flavours), Dornfelder (A simple medium red wine with sweet red fruit flavours - hello berries) and Silvaner (A light dry white wine with high acidity and citrus zest and green apple.)
It's largest regions Rheinhessen and Pfalz. But don't overlook it's smaller regions like the Mosel, Baden, the Ahr, and more!
There are many delights to German cooking, and one pairing recommendation we have at Bug and Olive is to try wine with the food from it's region.
Grow together & pair together? Give it a try and let us know.

Is your wine Vegan?
That is a great question. One wouldn’t assume that within the winemaking process wine makers can make the decision to use or not use animal by products in their wine making process. This varies winery to winery, region to region, and there is no guarantee a wine is vegan, unless it says so on the label.
How is wine not vegan?
Why do they use this products?
Egg whites or casein (a protein found in milk) can be used to remove tiny particles of sediment in a wine that cannot be removed by filtration.
However new trends of vegan products are growing with popularity, such as pea protein or bentonite (a form of clay).
Other animal products used in winemaking can include agglomerated corks (milk based glues) or beeswax (used to seal bottles.)
Does it matter to you if your wine is Vegan or not?

Wine and Pumpkin Pairings
As the leaves turn from green to brown we are fully embraced by the chill of the fall. As the season comes into full swing as does our love of pumpkin and wine pairings.
Pumpkin can be somewhat of a challenge when it comes to pairing wine. Like wine, not all pumpkin varietals are created equally and it would be remiss to assume that they’re all the same. The same can be said for the way the pumpkin is prepared.
To take some of the hassle out of the guesswork involved with pairing your favorite pumpkin dishes with delicious wines that won’t be too overpowering or simply incorrectly matched.
So, today we are focusing on the savoury delights of pumpkins. Think roasted pumpkin soup paired with an aromatic French Viognier, or pumpkin stuffed ravioli with a butter sauce paired with a delightful gruner vetliner.
Pumpkin Stew? Sangiovese or your favourite Rhone red....
Pumpkin Risotto (hellllllooooo!!) Albarino !!
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
