A reminder that calls for peace & nonviolence, when not implicitly connected to a telos of liberation, can become callous ways to wash one’s hands of the very real struggles facing oppressed communities.

It’s hard to believe we are nearly half way through our travel-study program in South Africa with Iziko Lamaqabane & Peace Catalyst International ... Tomorrow our students finish up their time in Johannesburg and head on to Cape Town where they will confront the colonial legacy, economic apartheid and the ongoing struggle for land and spacial justice in the Mother City.

Today we had another series of lectures on Black Theologies of Liberation, this round with Prof. Fundiswa Amanda Kobo & Dr. Lerato Kobe exploring Black Feminism, Womanism and Bosadi Theorization. It was an extremely rich time together. We finish our day in JNB seeing a performance of “A Good House” written and directed by award-winning contemporary playwright, writer and director, Amy Jephta at The Market Theatre … after so much thinking and feeling it’s a gift to digest through some theatre and story.
