Ah, the "struggle". Aka, the battle of the harmonies.

You can make so many decisions about a piece in terms of harmony. It can take a piece from sounding "okay" to sounding really special.

(And yes, that's where theory knowledge comes in handy!)

To have a really insightful interpretation, you can dig into what is happening harmonically 👍

Go analyze your score!

One of our students handmade these little piano figurines for us, complete with a little sign:

“The piano duo, soon to be a trio.” 🎹

Such an awesome gift for the studio 💕

Thank you!

I love how seriously he tried it too 😁

🤷

Accidentally wrote an impossible fi*****ng here.

I guess yes, trust your teacher but don't be afraid to call them out when something they say (or write) doesn't make sense!

We get tired and make mistakes too 😄

Sometimes piano lessons are 90% music and 10% me saying something silly.

The things we notice in music..

Follow for more useful piano tips 😄 (but like actually useful, I promise)

Yup, that's indeed the big, fancy secret to all things - practice.

Look - you can have the best, most awesome teacher in the world, but if you don't practice, you simply won't see results.. what can I say 🤷

And my students know this.

But I also believe a good teacher will show you *how* to practice.

Because that's a whole learning curve on its own... 😁

And that's what we do in lessons too.

More on that another time!

Happy practicing - follow for more piano content!

Starting piano later doesn't mean you have to settle for less.

This student started as a teenager, and now at 19, she's playing beautiful, challenging repertoire.

There is always so much time to learn, grow, and enjoy!

Is there really an age where it's "too late"?

Some pieces you learn. Some pieces you keep coming back to. 💕

Brahms, Intermezzo Op. 117 No. 2

What piece could you play over and over again?

Playing from memory can be a tough aspect of what we do...

But we can make it less scary with various techniques!

This is just one of many.
