Math Game of the Week: Multiplication War!
As part of our school's math goal this year, we are focusing on building strong math fact fluency, number sense, and confidence in mathematics.
Throughout the year, we will be sharing short videos featuring math games and strategies that families can easily use at home. Most activities require only simple materials, such as a deck of cards, and can be played in just a few minutes.
This week's game is Multiplication War. It's a fun and engaging way for students to practice multiplication facts while spending time with family members.
In the video, we also introduce a multiplication strategy called doubling. For example, if a student knows 2 × 6 = 12, they can double 12 to find 4 × 6 = 24. Double it again to find 8 × 6 = 48. Strategies like this help students think flexibly about numbers instead of relying solely on memorization.
We encourage you to watch the video together and give the game a try at home. Just a few minutes of practice can help build confidence and fluency with math facts.
Thank you for partnering with us in supporting your child's learning. We hope you enjoy playing together!
Happy learning, and let us know who wins!
