PART TWO: Duck Mountain Provincial Park Hiking Trip

The final....and most memorable excursion for the 2026 Wildlife and Habitat Studies 20 class, was a hiking trip to Madge Lake located in the lush and serene Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Last week, Mrs. Boyle, Mr. Yanko and 15 young outdoor enthusiasts traveled east to the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border for an experience they won't soon forget! With a tornado in the forecast for our first day, and rain with high winds predicted for the rest...we had positivity in our back pocket and a willingness to demonstrate the resiliency needed to face the unpredictable Saskatchewan elements!! And.... face it, they did!!
I was so proud of this group for their leadership, strength, trust, communication and adaptability. Even when they were given the option to pack up the second night, they refused to quit and knew that this experience was not for the faint of heart!

We had 8 sites booked in Fern Campground, right off the shores of Madge Lake. Prior to leaving, students were expected to work with their Tent Teams to meal plan, gear plan and even prepare a cross-curricular activity for the entire group to participate in.

We filled our days with exploring, fishing, story-telling, sharing our meals together, playing beach volleyball, skipping stones, fire-building and tarp/shelter building. Even though the Trans Canada Trail was under water and the road to the Fen Trail was washed out, we still managed to walk almost 30kms of the local XCaliber Trail throughout the week! These are the types of memories that last a lifetime!! ❤️
