Phyllis's obituary
Phyllis Ann Whitten was born to Leona Dupuis and Freddy Leblanc in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, Canada on January 30th, 1938. She was the oldest of four children (Paul, Gary, and Lorraine). At the age of 14, Phyllis was diagnosed with a degenerative disease that caused her to be wheelchair bound for the next several years of her life. Although small in stature she had a great spirit and determination that would push her to fight and win back her ability to walk. This spirit would also allow her take many more adventures in her life.
After graduating high school in 1958 she decided to head for Calgary, Alberta. It was there she would meet her future husband, a Protestant Irishman, Trevor Victor Whitten. In 1966 they married and had their first child, Trevor Scott Whitten. In 1968 a job opportunity prompted the couple to move to Houma, Louisiana where they had their second child, Sayler Michelle Whitten. Houma, Louisiana was their home for the next 37 years. They had many great friends and loved the rich culture of Louisiana.
Phyllis enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother and wife and practicing her Roman Catholic faith. In 2007, after their fourth grandchild was born, Phyllis and Trevor decided to move to Ohio to be near them. This is where they would spend their remaining years.
Phyllis and Trevor loved to travel, visit their children, and take trips back to Canada every summer. In their later years, after moving to Ohio, they took great pride in watching their grandchildren’s sporting events, extracurricular activities and attending academic milestones.
Phyllis will be remembered for her beautiful smile, wonderful laugh and sense of humor, and her selflessness. She was always willing to try new things, and yet also found joy in simple things.
Phyllis died peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 84 on March 16th, 2022 in Marysville Ohio. She was predeceased by her parents and husband Trevor, who passed away in 2015.
She is survived by her daughter, Sayler Whitten, her son, Scott (Sarah) Whitten, and grandchildren; Josh, Ben, Zach, and Sam. She is also survived by her three siblings Paul (Doreen) Leblanc, Gary Leblanc, and Lorraine (David) Head.
She will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace, Sweet Phyllis.

Today I happened upon sad news of a beloved friend from our youth and time at St. Clement's School in the 1950's.
Phyllis Ann (LeBlanc) Whitten has passed away in Marysville, Ohio, at the age of 84.
I will paste her obituary here along with the few school time pictures I have of her at the school. But before I do that May I just say that from the time I knew her in Port Elgin until the last time I saw her when she was visiting at the house while still living in Louisiana, I always was so struck by her resilience , her kindness and gentleness . One could not help but love this wonderful woman. May she rest in peace.

Some more info on Eric Cormier based on details I gleaned from older brother Hap (Rheal) and younger brother Paul. Eric attended St. Clement's School with us through the grades but did not graduate from our little school. He finished his high school education at St Joseph's in Memramcook where he took the the Business Course. (That would be around 1960) He then went to work for the Bank of Montreal and in fact moved to the Montreal area where he spent his working life.I do not have the details of his family life but I am sure that will all appear in the obituary.
I do know that once cancer had been diagnosed Eric received chemo treatments for about 6 months and appeared to make good progress. But cancer is a most terrible disease and about 3 months ago it reappeared - and it was all downhill from there until he went into palliative care . We will await more details

To Ivan Perry: I saw your very touching post about Eric: Here is a picture that I know will touch your heart. (not sure whether you have already seen it). It is from a celebration of an anniversary of the ordination of St. Clement's parish priest at the time: Fr. Arcade LeBlanc. I think it was 1959.

Another passing of a St. Clement's friend from our youth. Last evening I received a text from Paul Cormier that his brother Eric passed away in Montreal after a heck of a battle with cancer. No details of funeral services yet. Here is a pic Eric sent me of his 13th or 14th birthday party, presumably taken at the house on the Park Road in Port Elgin. To those who knew Eric from St. Clement's , I'm sure the faces will be familiar. I will update this as soon as I get more information. From speaking with older brother Hap and and from the texts from Paul, I gather that Eric fought the disease with courage and class. Now he may rest in peace.

We are saddened by news of the passing of a St. Clement's graduate of the class of 1956 - Paul Houlahan. I will paste the wonderful obituary from the Jones Funeral Home website along with 4 pics relevant to this FB page. . The only thing I could possibly add to that obit would be to emphasize how much Paul contributed to the Parish of St. Bartholemew's. There are indeed pillars of communiuties and he was certainly a pillar of that small Catholic community for many years.
And having spent my adult life in the teaching profession I was really happy to read the laudatory comments about Paul Houlahan the teacher. I do not know of one person who did not enjoy having a conversation with Paul.

It has been a while since I have gotten around to posting on this St Clement's page and , sadly, the posts are usually obituaries of old friends or acquaintances with whom we went to school at St Clement's. This morning I was saddened to read online of the passing of a Melrse boy that attended St Clement's School for several years before joining other schoolmates in transferring to St Joseph's College in Memramcook to complete their high school years there.
I had the pleasure of having a nice chat with Jim at the St Clement's reunion in 2011. I had not seen him in probably 50 years.
And I was pleased today to read that Ed Brine (St Clement's Class of '55) will be conducting the celebration of Jim's life on Saturday.
