Port Alberni, Ucluelet, Tofino, Bamfield District Parent Advisory Council (PAC) for SD 70.
To the Tumbler Ridge school community,
Our hearts are breaking alongside yours as we learn of the tragic shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and the terrible loss of life and injuries in your community. As fellow parents and caregivers in a neighbouring district, we are holding your students, staff, and families close in our thoughts during this unimaginable time.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and our compassion to those whose children, relatives, and friends have been injured or traumatized. No school community should ever have to endure such violence, and we grieve with you as you begin to process the shock and pain of this day.
We also want to acknowledge the courage of students, staff, first responders, health-care workers, and all those who acted quickly to protect and care for others during the emergency and in its aftermath. Your strength and resilience, even in the face of overwhelming fear and loss, are a testament to the spirit of Tumbler Ridge.
Please know that you are not alone. Neighbouring districts and Parent Advisory Councils stand ready to support you in whatever ways are helpful in the days, weeks, and months ahead—whether that is sharing resources for mental health and trauma support, helping advocate for the needs of your students and staff, or simply bearing witness to your grief and your healing.
On behalf of our SD70 DPAC, we send you our love, our solidarity, and our unwavering support as you walk through the difficult days to come.

An update about school power outages and student safety regarding early dismissal..
In the event of an unexpected power outage elementary students will not be dismissed nor sent home early. Per district policy: Under no circumstances are elementary students to be sent home unless there is assurance of appropriate home supervision. Additionally, Bus students shall not be dismissed early until school buses have been arranged.
Students may be picked up by authorized persons only and must follow regular sign-out procedures.
It may seem like an inconvenience to some but student safety is a top priority.
As school communications may be limited during power outages, watch your email for SD school announcements, the Pacific Rim Schools app, or tune in your area local radio station.
