One thing we hear a lot at the elementary level is that students are falling behind in literacy. 📖
At Lighthouse, we don’t guess where a student is at 👉 we start with a diagnostic.
We go right back to the basics (letter sounds, upper/lowercase), then move into vowels and vowel teams, and into decoding 👉 starting with simple words and building up from there. 📝
We use the same diagnostic for most students (K–8), which helps us clearly see where the gaps are.
From there, our Curriculum Coordinator builds a plan based on those results. As the student progresses, we reassess, adjust, and keep moving forward. 🙌
It’s a simple process, but it works.
