Wanda Laurin for School Trustee - Peace River School Division #10

I'm excited to embark on this school trustee journey, I look forward to input from parents and teachers and students! (Society in general! We all want what's best for the next generation!)

I booked a train trip to the East Coast last December, and here I am on that train, in the middle of Saskatchewan, heading for Toronto. I say this because I am sorry not to be out door knocking as this school trustee election goes into it's last week! Life, sometimes it happens.

As Childhood Hunger Rises in Alberta, Advocates Say Local Farmers Could Help Feed Kids Canada’s National School Food Program won’t solve childhood hunger. Alberta Food Matters would like to see homegrown solutions to the problem.

As school trustee, I would be happy to find more ways to consult with our professional staff. I know as a French Immersion teacher there were several recommendations from the teachers, several different years, that I would like to see implemented.

As a parent, and a grandparent, I want to see our education system be a support to our youth to reach their full potential. Appropriate class size and educational assistant supports are vital to helping our educators teach all the students in their classes.

As a retired teacher, I believe my voice at the school board table would be a huge advantage.

Did you know there is a National School Food Program with additional funding from the Federal gov't flowing to schools? I am working with Alberta Food Matters (as chairperson), to connect school food providers across the province with the Canadian group: the Coalition for Healthy School Food. I'm very passionate about all the knock-on effects of feeding our students healthy meals at school, using local food and hiring people to run these programs.
