While the risk of Lyme disease increases the longer a tick is attached, infection can still occur in less than 24 hours. Factors such as improper tick removal, the tick’s species, and local infection rates can also influence transmission time. Pompt and careful removal is crucial, but even short attachments don’t eliminate the risk.
