REASON #342 WHY PLASTIC GARDEN NETTING IS DANGEROUS FOR BIRDS!!
This goose got all tangled in garden netting from its beak to its feet. Thanks to Jacqueline for calling us, staying with the bird until our volunteers could arrive, and helping with the capture.
In some ways it was good that it got caught in such a big piece, as it couldn't fly and our volunteers were able to catch it, but it wouldn't have lasted long without being able to eat or escape predators. Unfortunately one eye was injured, potentially by rubbing against the plastic.
Wire mesh like chicken wire is a safer option. If you must use plastic, a finer mesh is safer.

****DRIVER found, thanks Kim**** This lovely turkey needs a ride from Hintonburg to the Wild Bird Care Centre around 4 pm (bird is coming from another area, WBCC closes at 5). It could go earlier if you can pick up near Rue Main east of Hull.

A reminder that Spring migration is underway and Ottawa-Gatineau’s birds need your help to safely move through our built landscape! 🌷🌻🪻
Each Spring and Fall our feathered friends travel thousands of kilometres to their seasonal homes. We can help make sure they don’t succumb to preventable fatalities like window strikes shown here.
These species (and scavenged feathers) were found in just one day.
Please treat your windows, sign up to volunteer patrol with us and keep an eye out for any birds you may find in the coming weeks. Tell your friends and family too! ❤️
Not sure where to get started? Visit our website at safewings.ca and complete our volunteer application today. Our birds thank you ❤️🪶🕊️

Thanks to everyone who checked! The turkey seems to be ok, although it's not in a very safe place. Please keep an eye out for it!
We've had a couple people reach out to us about a turkey at Fallowfields and Greenbank at the side of the road, not moving. Is anyone near the area who can check if it's still there? Please let us know in the comments if you can check.
