With several affordable housing projects now stalled, non-profits are turning to the new, federal Build Canada Homes fund – but there, they will also be competing with private, market-based housing developers.

Engaging youth volunteers could be the key to solving volunteer shortages in Canada's charitable sector. But how best to recruit and keep Gen Z volunteers is up for debate.

Join us for this Future of Good member-exclusive webinar on April 25, 2024 at 12:00 pm ET where we will explore what drives Gen Z volunteers and how non-profits can attract and retain youth volunteers for the long haul, as well as dispel common misconceptions about what drives this up-and-coming generation.

Some key questions to be addressed in this webinar include:

🔍 What is Gen Z looking for in a volunteer opportunity?
🔍 What incentives resonate with Gen Z? (Mentoring, rewards/recognition)
🔍 What can Gen Z volunteers teach and guide older generation volunteers?
🔍 What barriers do Gen Z volunteers face, and how can they be eliminated?
🔍 What do non-profits get wrong (and right) when it comes to recruiting youth volunteers?
🔍 What are the long-term benefits of bringing in Gen Z? Can they bring volunteer numbers up to pre-pandemic levels?
🔍 What misconceptions hinder non-profits looking for Gen Z volunteers? Or turn off youth who might otherwise donate their time?

More than half of Alberta non-profits can’t find skilled staff: report 04/08/2024

The non-profit scene in Alberta, Canada, is grappling with a tough challenge: finding and keeping skilled staff.

A recent report by the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (CCVO) reveals that only five percent of Alberta non-profits find staff recruitment easy. Moreover, the struggle to fill positions and recruit volunteers adds to the workload strain and staff burnout.

Low wages in the non-profit sector aren't just numbers on a balance sheet; they're impacting people's lives, exacerbating Canada's affordability crisis.

Mental health concerns among non-profit staff, including rising levels of anger and hate, add to the hurdles. But there's hope as non-profit leaders are shifting focus to prioritize staff well-being and consider wage increases, even if it means adjusting programming.
