Weld any dissimilar metal. This rod surprised me with zero cracking! The boys at Rockmount Alloys told me the Brutus rod could weld dissimilar metals together.
So I did what every skeptical welder should do:
Welded it.
Quenched it. Cut it into test strips.
Destructively tested every weld.

7 Stick Welding Rods Every Welder Should Know. Not all stick welding electrodes are created equal. In this video, I break down 7 of the most common carbon steel welding rods and explain what each one is designed for.
You’ll learn the differences between:
✔️ E6010 – Deep pe*******on and open root welds
✔️ E7010 – Pipeline and high-strength root passes
✔️ E6013 – Easy-to-use rod for beginners and light fabrication
✔️ E7014 – Fast fill with excellent appearance
✔️ E7024 – High-deposition “drag rod” for flat and horizontal welding
✔️ E7018 – Low-hydrogen structural welding
✔️ E11018 – High-strength applications requiring superior mechanical properties
Whether you’re just learning stick welding or brushing up on electrode selection, understanding when to use each rod will help you produce stronger, cleaner welds.

What should I run these rods at? Optimum amperage setting??? E6013,E7018,E6011. If you are brand new never stick welded, start with 6013, if you are ready for smooth welds 7018 is best but this rod is less forgiving when it comes to arc length and striking. If you are ready for something completely different try 6010/11. If you want to level up, join my online welding course today.
New to stick welding? Let’s break it down.
In this quick intro, I cover the basics to get you striking an arc with confidence 🔥

How did this happen?
Practice X-Block, Welding in the flat position with the GMAW process. As you can see we have lack of pe*******on on the side wall. I want to know your thoughts.
