Your baby didn’t suddenly forget how to sleep. Their sleep changed!!!
Around 3–4 months, babies become much more aware of their surroundings, their sleep cycles mature, and what worked beautifully during the newborn stage may suddenly stop working. I remember this phase vividly with my boys!
That can look like:
→ Taking longer to settle
→ More frequent night waking
→ Short or unpredictable naps
→ Suddenly needing to be fed, rocked, bounced or held to sleep and it’s taking longer
→ A baby who used to be such a good sleeper becoming much harder to settle
And this is where feeding, intention and consistency become so important.
🤍 Feeding: Make sure baby is getting enough daytime calories and that feeds aren’t consistently becoming a way to fall asleep (unless it works for you then keep going!!)
🤍 Intention: Start exposing baby to their sleep space at the onset of sleep, especially at bedtime. We want their crib/bassinet to become a familiar, predictable place where sleep begins - not somewhere they only arrive once they’re already asleep.
🤍 Consistency: Babies learn through repetition. If the response to every waking changes, it becomes much harder for them to understand what is expected!!
This doesn’t mean you need to expect perfection or leave your baby to figure everything out alone.
It means creating a predictable foundation for sleep as your baby’s development changes.
And honestly? This is often where parents say, “I don’t understand what happened - we were doing SO well!”
You didn’t do anything wrong 🩷
Your baby grew. Their sleep changed. And now their sleep strategy may need to evolve too!
If your 3–4 month old suddenly feels like a completely different sleeper, comment or DM “SLEEP” and I’ll send you some guidance on where to start.
