SUMMER 2021 HIGHLIGHTS: we had a fantastic summer harvesting vegetables, enjoying picnics, playing with water balloons, and documenting our nature walks! My favourite memory was when hair salons were allowed to reopen and all the kids were suddenly interested in giving their friends hair cuts😅 We had a blast...despite the pandemic. We have so much to be thankful for💞

FLOWER THEME: in early August the children took interest in my ever changing flower garden. Each day we checked on the buds to see if they'd bloomed. Finally the flowers had fully appeared, so I brought a few fresh cut flowers indoors for us to practice our fine motor and observation skills

Harvesting carrots , strawberries, and swiss chard and washing our produce clean :) We also sang action songs about vegetables that grow ABOVE and BELOW the soil 🎶 Summer time has been filled with water play and observing the growth in the garden. The big kids did a science experiment to observe how plants consume water.

What's your favourite vegetable? "Brussel Sprouts!" replied one of our preschoolers, "POPCORN!" cheered a toddler; and we all had a good laugh😍 Today we harvested swiss chard and more basil. They are excited to take these vegetables home to share with their families 🌱

Don't forget to include animal sounds and turn this exercise into dramatic play !!

Where does our food come from? How do plants grow? GARDENING is our science theme this season . Today was extra special as we expanded our vocabulary with a new word: "harvest" 🌱 we harvested the Basil from the garden and made a scrumptious pesto meal for lunch. We also harvested tiny strawberries. Learning and Growing Together 🥰 Shout out to Nate Maki for our daycare's beautiful raised garden box!
