At our Waldorf school back home just before the Maypole Dance the oldest girls gather in a circle, their hands filled with grain. Whomever's hand the hen chooses to eat from, is crowned the May Queen (queen of the faeries) This year the hen chose Freya. The May King is chosen the same way and thus the dance begins around the Maypole.
