A YOUTH CODING CLASS THIS WEEKEND!

*14+ years old - Coding With A Purpose*

- Do you have a young teen (14 years old and up) who is into video games, computers, and technology?

Are you a parent who would like to nurture your teen's interest in technology for a meaningful purpose?

Are you interested in giving your teen the opportunity to build STEM skills so that they gain an advantage in life?

Are you looking for a healthy role model to mentor your teen to understand the responsibilities that come with computer programming and literacy?

Then this is the workshop for you! A workshop designed to teach and introduce Python programming to teens in a responsible way. They could take a coding class anywhere, they could probably learn Python through youtube but what they can't learn easily is ethical coding practices, how to responsibly design code, the humanitarian uses and benefits of computer programming, and much more.

Does your child wonder why he is learning all this math?

Do you have a bright child who would flourish by learning real-life applications of the math concepts he sees in school?

Are you a parent who wants to give their child (7 to 13-year-old) a strong foundation in STEM skills?

Are you a parent interested in introducing coding to your child but you don't want to throw them into the scary and vast sea of computers?

Then this workshop is for you!

Unplugged Computer Programming is a growing trend in STEM education where complex computer programming and mathematical concepts are explained through real-life examples and games. Learning a programming language is not the way great minds solve great problems, they solve them by using foundational logic, and programming practices & concepts that they will later translate into a programming language (the easy part). We want to nurture students' natural abilities to break down complex problems into smaller parts, understand and apply deductive reasoning, and practice creative problem-solving of well-known mathematical problems.

Absolutely! This is often a great paradigm shift for our students. Our tutor-mentors make it clear that small but consistent actions throughout the week are better than long catchup study sessions. 15 minutes of math a day keeps the troubles away!

We often receive requests from parents who need help supporting their children in French Immersion when they don't speak French. We know it can be challenging for a parent busy with work, & other responsibilities to find the time to research tools & resources. These are our top tips for supporting children in French Immersion.

> Learn together: We don't mean take a class with them. We mean, show interest in what they are learning and even if your vocabulary is limited to 'Bonjour' they feel supported when they see you trying too. It also boosts their confidence in their own learning skills to see you struggle and still try. We would add that learning together does not only mean conversing, it can be cooking a French dish, baking a French treat, or even re-watching a favorite movie/show but this time in French.

> French Resources: Watching, listening, and reading are all valid ways to reinforce the learning that happens in school. There are plenty of online resources for parents to encourage their children to learn French. Our favorite? tinyurl.com/26hmby8f

> Make it fun: This is simple, but sometimes we know it can be stressful to worry about grades, and everything else on our child's plate but an easy way to lighten the load is to just go out and have fun. How about trying a new food spot on the Gatineau side and having your child order in French Or even extracurriculars with francophone participants/programming?

>Comfortable Group Learning: We know this one sounds a little impossible but it is possible. We offer weekly French discussion groups to learn French in a comfortable setting. We offer light snacks, and fun prompts, and get the conversation going between students (grouped by age) to help them practice with other students who need practice.

>Incentive: Last but not least, motivation is crucial external or internal. Find what motivates them and link it to their learning progress. They are competitive? Great! Compete with them. They are bookworms? Great! New favorite book if you read 2 in French. Get creative in supporting them and if you're struggling, we are here for you - check out our services at
