Do you like to cook? Here are some of the most commonly used English verbs for cooking. 🧑‍🍳🍳
Making mistakes while speaking to others is a very normal and common thing that happens when learning a new language. Many people become upset, angry, or embarrassed when they make a mistake. Some people even just completely stop talking and trying to communicate at all. However, we should stay calm and just continue speaking if we make a small error. It's not the end of the world, and honestly most people will not care that much as long as they can still understand the main message of what you are trying to say. Also, remember that even native English speakers make small mistakes as well when speaking, so it's really nothing to worry so much about.
If you make a mistake while speaking to someone…
âś… What TO DO:
1. Stay calm and keep going
Everyone makes mistakes! Don’t panic or stop speaking.
Try to correct yourself if you can, but keep the conversation flowing.
🗣️ “I goed to the store—oh, I mean went to the store.”
2. Use polite correction phrases (used in formal situations):
“Sorry, I meant to say…”
“Let me try that again.”
“Actually, what I meant was…”
These show confidence and self-awareness — very respectful!
3. Laugh it off if appropriate
Humor can ease tension and help everyone feel more relaxed.
Example: “Oops! That came out wrong. Let me try again.”
4. Focus on the message, not perfection
Communication is about being understood, not being perfect.
If the listener understands your idea, that’s a win—even with small mistakes.
❌ What NOT TO DO:
1. Don’t freeze or shut down
Silence or giving up can make things more awkward.
It’s better to keep going, even if it's not perfect.
2. Don’t over-apologize
A quick correction is fine, but saying “sorry” over and over can make you seem unsure.
One “sorry” or “let me rephrase” is enough.
3. Don’t get embarrassed or frustrated
Mistakes are a normal part of learning and human communication.
The listener will usually be understanding — we’ve all been there.
1. Can’t = Cannot
Meaning: Not able to do something (lack of ability or permission)
Examples:
I can’t swim. (I don’t know how.)
You can’t go in there. (You’re not allowed.)
âś… Use "can't" when there's a reason you are unable to do something.
2. Won’t = Will not
Meaning: Choosing not to do something in the future (refusal or decision)
Examples:
I won’t go to the party. (I don’t want to.)
He won’t eat broccoli. (He refuses to.)
✅ Use "won’t" when someone refuses or decides not to do something.
3. Don’t = Do not
Meaning: Not doing something right now or regularly (present tense negative)
Examples:
I don’t like spicy food. (General dislike)
They don’t know the answer. (Right now, they don’t know.)
✅ Use "don’t" to talk about what doesn’t happen, isn’t true, or isn’t done in general or right now.
