2. Create halloween decorations with toilet paper rolls, plastic bags, and other items that could be wasteful!

Saqmaq (Chiefs), Wampum and the role of the Putu's.
Saqmaq were, and are, sovereign representatives of their communities. When gathering with neighbours and other Nations, Saqmaq were messengers for their people.
Wampum belts were used by the Putu's, as well as others, to record events which were then interpreted when necessary. The most important decisions were recorded in Wampum and carried by oral histories.
The Putu's is a member of the Santé Mawio’mi (or Grand Council) who would assist the Nation with remembering key events and agreements. Always, our agreements sought to protect Netukulimk and our ways of life.

Canada is changing; and the pace of that change is generational, marked by changes in education, mindset, opportunity and much more.
First Nations, Inuit and Métis across this land that the Haudenosaunee call Turtle Island, are being acknowledged in ways that were never before possible. I believe that reconciliation has begun, although slow and fraught with many emotions. We must find a way forward and it must persist.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY - September 30th
This day honours those who were taken from their homes and placed in residential schools around Canada. These schools forced Metis, Inuit, and First Nations children to disconnect from their culture and assimilate into Canadian society. It is important for the reconciliation process for the individuals and families that were affected by the residential schools.
Why...
September 30th? This was the time of year children were taken from their homes to the residential schools.
Orange? Phyllis Webstad, a former student and creator of orange shirt day, left for her first day at the residential school in her new orange shirt given to her by her grandmother. When she arrived, they took her brand new shirt away from her.

Back to school shopping often involves getting all the latest gadgets - from brand new laptops with bigger screens, to the most recent smartphones.
But what happens to our electronics when we upgrade?
-

Never underestimate how much of a difference you can make; whether it be developing a small sustainable practice, or taking part in climate strikes, or contacting your local representatives about environmental issues - any change is better than none at all. 🌍
-

As of 2019, the data for resolved clean water advisories “has its limitations: it doesn’t include B.C. or any of the territories.” Jane Gerster and Krista Hessey, Global News.
As of 2021, certain communities continue to have ongoing issues with their water.
“Certain communities, like Curve Lake, have issues with E coli in their water. Others, like Grassy Narrows, struggle with a legacy of toxic heavy metals, a remnant of negligent industry. In some cases, water is tainted by parasites and bacteria that occur naturally.” Leyland Cecco, The Guardian.
